My old cherry tree is about to give up. Several of the big branches have broken during the last couple of winters due the heavy snow. After a long life the tree has given me so much fruit that I have not been able to take care of it all. This year the few remaining branches have produced more than ever. I have been making canned cherries. We use the cherries for dessert with vanilla ice cream and a dash of eggnog on top. It is absolutely wonderful.
I buy the old jars at flea markets of course – with new rubber bands the cherries will last up to several years in the airtight jars.
