We are having a quite week end in the valley of Valdres where my husband has his roots. The farm is a quite place with not people to disturb the animals that frequently visit the farm yard. Elk, deer, fox and an occasional lynx come for a visit. The houses are covered in snow now – quietly and patiently waiting for spring.
Coming here, we stopped by a second hand store in Dokka and also visited a family that was emptying a house for old furniture. Two lovely old tables are now stowed into my car. We are going to paint them once we get them home. I found 5 more blue cups for my collection and another 4 old wine glasses! An old wooden box, an old petrol lamp, a large wooden chest for wood and a bucket also found their way into the car.
The farm is furnished with bits and pieces from the farm. We have added a few things we have found at flea markets and garage sales. This is not a stylish place, but cosy and comfortable. Worn and ugly pieces of furniture are covered with white spreads and quilts. It’s just what we need to relax for a few days.

For my Christmas ornaments I have made boxes for many years. Now the time had come to make boxes for other bits and pieces. I think I have to make one with a geographical map also for holiday memories. Wouldn’t a box decorated with Chinese newspaper be nice for the photos and souvenirs from a trip to China? Every box could be decorated with a different theme depending on what’s going to put in them. This is almost free as well. The only thing I purchased to make them was paper glue. When I have finished decorating the box I am going to lacquer it to make it more resistant.

Here are some links to other French/Dutch blogs that I like very much to visit. If you click on the picture there is a link to the actual blog! If anybody can suggest any Danish blogs to me I would highly appreciate that you left me a messag! Thanks in advance!

Redskap må man ha!
Ellers går det i rokokko her for tiden!
Hva kaller man denne stilen da? Bohem kanskje?
Yesterday, I put my blue and white chair up for sale at the Norwegian web page www.finn.no. After about a couple of hours I had several buyers for both the chair and the stool. Inspired by the interest people had for the chair I went to pick up two other similar chairs and a couple of coffee tables too. I had several tables like this before Christmas and they were sold as soon as they were finished.
But I have been shopping more – a new stapler! I hope this one is better than the old one I had. It can use nails as well as the usual staples so I am hoping the upholstering is going to be easier when I use this one.
The last chair I am showing is one of a pair I bought from a lady when I was actually going to pick up a table. I don’t like the pattern much – but I am going to leave them as they are for a bit – to see if I can live with the color and the pattern. It might well be that they will look better with fresh white walls and white curtains? They look a little bohemian to me…
Saturday we are going to Telemark (2 ½ hours each way by car) to pick up a load of furniture I have bought. I hope they are ok – at least from the pictures I have seen they do look nice.
Have a nice week ends out there – wherever you are in the world!

Valentine’s Day- when was this celebration introduced in Norway? I can’t remember that this day even existed here just a few years back…. Honestly – I am not very fond of all these new days we all HAVE to celebrate. These days have a tradition in other countries but have been introduced here later – and they are often not rooted in any of our traditions. The gift shops of course can have some extra sale! I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, Mothers Day – or Halloween I’m afraid. I know a lot of women walking around with bad feelings because their husbands forgot one of these “very important” celebrations. Why not pay a little more attention the rest of the time – sit down and talk, use all the short moments we have to show that we care for each other.
My Valentine’s Day was perfect! I have spent it here at home, doing the small projects I have started. The chair I showed some time ago has been painted white and yesterday I managed to do the upholstery. I went for a little shopping, bought the ribbons I needed to finish and cover the nails. At the same time I accidentally came to a detour – and managed to stop by some second hand shops. As you can see I found some bits and pieces – mostly white porcelain.
Later in the evening I mad a nice meal for us and painted some more of the old furniture I have been buying lately. To finish the evening we watched Heartbeat on TV – I just love watching these TV series and I never miss it!
That was for me a perfect Valentine’s Day!

I have given up the granny squares. I cannot make them equal and square – so I have thrown away the few squares I made. I have gone back to knitting throws of my wool. I use three threads of different colour and change the yarn when one colour is finished. That is so easy and I can sit there knitting and dreaming of other things at the same time. I have noticed that the finished result is better if I use a grey colour through the whole project – the colours don’t come out that strong. The first throw has that grey yarn – the other has not. When the knitting is finished there are about one million loose ends to fix….

Inspired by all the recycling ideas we have seen in bloggs and in books and magazines lately I am showing you a couple of square idea. Yes – I am a square person – I hope I do not have a square personality! If I have the choice between various patterns I will automatically go for the squares! I wonder if that means anything??? The bed spread is made of old cotton curtains, clothes and various scraps. I do not like the idea of purchasing new material to make a quilt! For me, the whole point of a quilt is to make use of old stuff. I have quilted by hand as my machine is not large enough to handle a double quilt. The table top was shown in an article in the French magazine Cote Ouest. Old wood has been cut into squares and a wooden tapesty covers a table top. A glass top makes in easy to clean. So the next time you are dismantling the walls in your home – make use of the old wood. Wouldn’t this look nice on a terrace by the sea?
Last night we had a gathering in Sandvika just outside Oslo. So many fun and resourceful ladies! We laughed and talked until it was time to close the restaurant. We exchanged ideas good advices related to our interest for decorating, and decided that this was not the last meeting! I truly look forward to the next one and hope it will be soon!

I went through the whole shop but did not find any. The young ladies working there were all busy chatting with a you couple that was going to buy some bed linen at reduced price so I was left waiting until one of them finally found a moment to answer my question. No – they did not have any! She did not know if they were going to have any either – so I left without even spending a penny. Well – I have seen some nice ones in a shop in a small place in Valdres – so the next time we are going to the farm I will stop there to have a look. I am sorry but this new shop did not score a lot of points with me!
I took a look around my house and found I had a lot of textiles with these strong colours and I am sure a rose carpet would be just perfect. I do like white textiles as well – but I prefer those with some strong texture. I am not a totally “white person” – I need colours around me to feel at home!
